2 held for posing as cops, threatening students, duping them over watching porn
Two people were arrested in Tamil Nadu for posing as police officials, threatening a student and duping him of Rs 20,000 over watching porn. The accused confessed to have duped several students in this manner.
Two men were arrested in Krishnagiri for posing as cyber crime police officials and duping a student of Rs 20,000 by threatening to question him for watching porn.
According to police, a student from Pudukkottai was contacted by two men who called themselves officials of the Tamil Nadu Cyber Crime Police.
The two accused, identified as Ganesan and Prakash, then threatened the boy claiming that he had watched porn on his mobile phone and that he would now be taken for questioning in connection with the matter.
When the boy began to plead, the duo sought Rs 20,000 from him. Fulfilling the demand of the accused, the student sent the money from his father’s account.
When the boy’s parents came to know about the incident, the boy narrated to them the entire episode. Later, one of his relatives identified that it was a scam and was quick to inform Pudukottai police.
The cybercrime team traced the online payment account that was used to pay the hackers — Ganesan and Prakash.
With the help of the information, police arrested the accused in the Krishnagiri district.
The cybercrime team had arrested Ganesan and Prakash on Thursday. The two accused confessed to have duped several students in this manner, police said.
Police are also trying to find how they got access to the mobile phones of the students.
