2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee arrives with new exterior, interior, and hybrid power

Stellantis revealed a brand new Jeep for the global market. The 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee debuts with an all-new architecture, new plug-in hybrid powertrain, all-new exterior design, all-new interior, and a two-row configuration. Apart from the V6 and V8 engines, Jeep also revealed the 2022 Grand Cherokee 4xe, the first plug-in hybrid version, and an off-road version of the Grand Cherokee, the Trailhawk, which also comes with a hybrid motor. Dubbed as the most luxurious Grand Cherokee yet, the 2022 model claims best-in-class performance, comfort, capability, and functionality with three 4×4 systems on offer. The all-new Jeep Grand Cherokee is set to arrive in North America by the fourth quarter of 2021, while the Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe is scheduled to arrive in early 2022 and in global markets later that year.

2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee exterior design:

Jeep has taken a modern approach to the design of the new Grand Cherokee, with slim and sculpted styling that gives the big SUV its luxurious appeal. The lowered, tapered roof not only improves the aerodynamics of the 2022 Grand Cherokee but also liberates space for a large boot. The lowered beltline and expansive glass allow for more light into the cabin and increases outward visibility. A wider and larger iconic seven-slot grille and new front fascia conceal a long-range radar and other advanced technological features. An elongated hood and a bold stance that is visually appealing. The new active grille shutters, front-wheel spats, air curtains, hood aero flick, lowered roofline, and rear vertical-pillar spoilers improve the on-road performance and fuel efficiency of the new Jeep Grand Cherokee. A gloss black roof is optional on the base Overland variant but comes standard on top-spec Trailhawk, Summit, and Summit Reserve trims. A wide track provides enhanced handling and nimble maneuverability. Jeep is also offering the new Grand Cherokee with 8 wheel options in signature Jeep geometry and up to 21-inch diameter wheels offered for the first time.

2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee interior design:

The new Jeep Grand Cherokee carries a luxurious exterior design to the interior as well as handcrafted materials and modern amenities. The front panel features new HVAC vents, a re-aligned center stack, and a 10.1-inch digital screen, as well as a segment-first available 10.25-inch front passenger display and a new high-definition rear-seat entertainment system. A McIntosh sound system brings music to the Grand Cherokee. The all-new Jeep seating architecture features a length-adjustable cushion for the front row passengers and 16-way adjustable front seats with power lumbar and memory function. The heated/vented seats are available in the first two rows, with three-level configurable controls. The center console layout now has updated switches, more storage space in the front bin that can hold two wireless devices, and a wireless charger. An all-new premium, full-suite of customizable LED lighting with daytime/night-time settings is standard on all trim levels for the first time on the Grand Cherokee, and ambient lighting with a 5-color selection is available on Overland, Summit, and Summit Reserve models.

The Jeep Grand Cherokee ushers in an array of 110 advanced safety and security features, which includes full-speed collision warning with active braking and pedestrian/cyclist detection, rear cross-path detection, adaptive cruise control with stop and go, active lane management, LaneSense lane departure warning with lane keep assist, advanced brake assist, blind-spot monitoring, ParkView rear back-up camera, ParkSense rear park assist sensors with stop, switch-activated electric park brake, and tire-pressure monitoring system. Optional features on the new Jeep Grand Cherokee consist of New Night Vision Camera with pedestrian and animal detection, a new intersection collision assist, a new drowsy driver detection system, parallel and perpendicular park assist, and new traffic sign recognition, and a new 360-degree surround-view camera system with front and rear washers.

2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee dimensions:

The flexibility of the new architecture allows for two different wheelbases and lengths, as well as electrification. While the two-row Grand Cherokee and three-row Grand Cherokee L share the same overall width of2148mm, the two-row Grand Cherokee has a 2964mm wheelbase compared with the Grand Cherokee L’s 3091mm wheelbase, 127mm shorter. In overall length, the two-row is 4914mm compared to the Grand Cherokee L’s 5204mm, a 289mm reduction. Ditching the third-row allowed Jeep to accommodate the hybrid powertrain of the Grand Cherokee.

2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee engine:

The new two-row Grand Cherokee will come with a 3.6-litre V6 engine with 293bhp and 352Nm of torque is standard, while a 5.7-litre V8 engine with 357bhp and 528Nm of torque is optional. The rear-wheel-drive system is standard with the V6, while several different four-wheel-drive systems are optional; the V8 comes with a four-wheel-drive system. An 8-speed automatic is standard across the entire board. The hybrid model is powered by a turbocharged 2.0-litre inline-four petrol engine with two electric motors together producing 375bhp and 637Nm of peak torque. Jeep claims an electric driving range estimate of 40km on a full charge.

2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee off-road abilities:

The Grand Cherokee comes with new unibody construction and chassis that facilitate its electrification, while three 4×4 systems- three 4×4 systems, Quadra-Trac I, Quadra-Trac II, and Quadra-Drive II with rear electronic limited slip-differential (eLSD). All three systems are equipped with an active transfer case to improve traction by moving torque to work with the wheel with the most grip. The Jeep Quadra-Lift air suspension now comes with electronic semi-active damping and delivers 287mm of ground clearance and 609mm of water fording. The system automatically adjusts the shock tuning to changing road conditions for enhanced comfort, stability, and control, or maybe controlled manually with console controls, and features five height settings for optimum ride performance. Jeep’s Selec-Terrain system offers five terrain modes- Auto, Sport, Rock, Snow, and Mud/Sand to provide calibrations for any driving scenario. Also new for the 2022 Grand Cherokee 4×4 is a front-axle disconnect. The system senses road conditions and activates all-wheel drive or two-wheel drive accordingly. The four-wheel-drive automatically re-engages when the vehicle senses its need.
