Tokyo Olympics – 25 July 2021: Manu Bhaker’s pistol had circuit malfunction during qualification
The electronic trigger of Manu Bhaker’s pistol had a circuit malfunction in the middle of the second series of the qualification.
Manu Bhaker was hampered by a technical snag in her pistol which cost her time in the qualification of the women’s 10m air pistol at the Tokyo Olympics. Manu, who was one of the medal hopes for India in Tokyo, and Yashaswini Deswal both failed to make it to the finals of the event.
The electronic trigger of Manu’s pistol had a circuit malfunction in the middle of the second series of the qualification. The 19-year-old had to then go to the test tent with the coach and a member of the jury where it was replaced with a spare tested and then she returned to the competition area.
The process cost the world No.2 and she finished with 575 points, thus finishing 12th in the 53-woman field. Only the top eight qualified for the finals. Manu recovered well to shoot 98 in the 5th series but looked to be under a bit of time pressure.
