Chennai Super Kings open their account at IPL 2023, beat Lucknow Super Giants in high-voltage match

In the match, Lucknow Super Giants won toss and opted to bowl. Chennai Super Kings set target of 218 runs.

Chennai Super Kings registered a victory at their home ground, MA Chidambaram stadium, Chennai on Monday as they defeated Lucknow Super Giants in their second game at the IPL 2023. Coming to bat first, CSK registered a target of 218 runs. On the other hand, LSG managed to score 205/7 in 20 overs. The high-voltage ended with MS Dhoni-led CSK winning by 12 runs. Interestingly, this was CSK’s first win against LSG in the IPL. Before this, both teams locked horns in the previous edition of the tournament, when LSG had won.

The openers of Lucknow Super Giants made an explosive start as Kyle Meyers and KL Rahul hit boundaries all over the ground. However, their batting line-up started collapsing after Mayers’ dismissal. Mayers played an innings of 53 runs off 22 balls. On the other hand, Deepak Hooda scored 2 runs and Krunal Pandya scored 9 runs. Marcus Stoinis contributed 21 runs and Nicholas Pooran registered 32 runs

Moeen Ali bowled brilliantly for Chennai Super Kings. He took 4 wickets for 26 runs in four overs. Apart from this, he also scored 19 runs from his bat. Tushar Deshpande and Mitchell Santner took 1 wicket each for CSK.

Rituraj Gaikwad and Devon Conway stitched an amazing partnership for Chennai Super Kings. Gaikwad scored 57 and Conway scored 47. On the other hand, Shivam Dubey contributed 27 runs. Ambati Rayudu and Mahendra Singh Dhoni batted brilliantly in the last over. Rayudu scored 27 runs and Dhoni smashed back-to-back sixes and added 12 runs. Mark Wood and Ravi Bishnoi took 3 wickets each for LSG and Avesh Khan got 1 wicket.

CSK has a winning percentage of around 80 on this ground. The team has won 40 matches here and lost 16. CSK have won 26 matches while batting first on this ground, and while chasing they have won 14 times.
