PBKS vs LSG: Lucknow Super Giants crushed Punjab Kings in the 38th match of IPL 2023. KL Rahul’s LSG defeated Shikhar Dhawan’s PBKS by a huge margin of 56 runs on a batting bonanza of IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali. LSG scored 257 in their first innings and wrapped PBKS for 201 to clinch their fifth win of the season.
Batting first LSG registered the second-highest total in IPL history as their batters destroyed the PBKS bowling lineup. The likes of Marcus Stoinis, Nicholas Pooran, Kyle Mayers and Ayush Badoni proved out to be destroyed as LSG was helped by contributions from the top and middle. Their bowlers were good too as they bowled PBKS out for 201 in 19.5 overs.
PBKS stayed on the back foot throughout the chase
Chasing a score of something like 258 need a giant effort from many of the batters. But PBKS were always on the back foot in the chase. They lost Shikhar Dhawan and Prabhsimran in the powerplay and had only 55 in the first 6 overs. Atharva Taide inspired some fight and hit a 36-ball 66 to keep PBKS going to a respectable total and was helped a bit by Sikandar Raza’s 36-run knock. Liam Livingstone, Sam Curran and Jitesh Sharma tried their hands and scored in 20s but it was way too much for the home side. From LSG, Yash Thakur was the pick of the bowlers as he took 4 wickets for 37 runs in 3.5 overs.
LSG batters make merry of conditions
LSG made made merry of the batting paradise. They cashed in every scoring opportunity and sent PBKS bowlers out of the park for fun. Kyle Mayers, Marcus Stoinis, Ayush Badoni, and Nicholas Pooran, all were in a punishing mood. Stoinis topped the scoring sheets with his blasting 40-ball 72. Mayers also hit a fifty, while Pooran and Badoni fell a little short of the half-ton. For PBKS, Rabada took most wickets – 2 but leaked runs at 13 in his 4 overs. Arshdeep Sing was the most expensive of the PBKS bowlers, giving 54 runs in his 4 overs.
