Four people died after a boulder reportedly hit a vehicle at Wagan Banihal on NH 44 in Jammu and Kashmir, Ramban Deputy Commissioner said on Tuesday.

The truck was on its way from Jammu to Srinagar and was hit by a huge boulder, leading to the vehicle getting skidded off the road. All four passengers died on the spot. Following the incident, the police and rescue teams rushed to the spot and recovered the bodies.
They were shifted to Sub District Hospital Banihal.
According to the officials, the incident took place as the truck skidded off the road and rolled into a gorge near Sher Bibi in the Banihal area of Ramban district.
The victims were identified as Afzal Garoo, Altaf Garoo, Irfan Ahmed, and Showkat Ahmed.

Altaf Garoo, S/o Aziz Garoo, brother of driver, 36; Irfan Ahmed, S/o Ab Hamid Bhat, R/o Trail, Srigufara Anatnag, 33; Showkat Ahmed, S/o Ab Hamid, R/o Trail Srigufara Anantnag, 29,” Deputy Commissioner, Ramban posted on X, formerly Twitter.
“The traffic on national highway has been blocked because of landslide. ”Jammu Srinagar NH has been blocked because of landslide at Kishtwari Pather Banihal. Traffic is stopped from both ends,” the officials said.
People are advised not to travel on NH-44 without confirmation from Traffic Control Units,” traffic official added.
