Speaking on Star Sports network, Gambhir highlighted India’s unbeaten track record in world cups, stating that India are far superior than their neighbours at this point.
After two long years, Team India and Pakistan will square off against each other on a cricket field. The occasion will be the ICC T20 World Cup which gets underway a couple of months later in the United Arab Emirates. The International Cricket Council (ICC) announced the fixture of the upcoming marquee event on Tuesday. India will begin their campaign against arch-rivals Pakistan on October 24 at Dubai International Stadium.
While the fans of both the countries are excited to see their national heroes fight for the title, former India opener and World Cup winner Gautam Gambhir has opined that Babar Azam-led Pakistan would be under a ‘lot of pressure’ when they face off India in the T20 World Cup.
Speaking on Star Sports network, Gambhir highlighted India’s unbeaten track record in world cups, stating that India are far superior than their neighbours.
“I am sure it will add a lot of pressure on Pakistan because India has got 5-0 on Pakistan (World Cups). We should not be talking about whether there will be pressure on India, there is going to be a lot of pressure on Pakistan because the expectations are going to be high in Pakistan as well.
“At the moment if you see, India is far superior to Pakistan. Yes, in a T20 format, anyone can beat anyone. We should not take any team for granted, teams like Afghanistan can create upsets. It’s the same with Pakistan. But there will be pressure on Pakistan,” Gambhir told Star Sports.
India and Pakistan last met at the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup in England. Virat Kohli & Co had won the rain-interrupted game, played in Manchester, by 89 runs (D/L method).
The ICC T20 World Cup 2021 in UAE and Oman will get underway from October 17, with the final to be played in Dubai on November 14.
