‘83’ box office collection Week 1: Ranveer Singh’s sports drama falls short of the 70 crore mark

Ranveer Singh Starrer ‘83’ concluded its first week with a low score. The film has failed to cross the 70 crore mark and has raked in less business, despite the advantage of the Christmas weekend holiday. With theatres shutting down in Delhi,’ ‘83’ reportedly lost out on business of around 1 crore net. According to boxofficeindia.com, ‘83’ collected a total of Rs 68 crore net plus at the end of its first week.

After a slow start, this sports drama picked up pace in mid-week but has ended on a low note. The first week’s business of ‘83’ is less than the first-weekend collection of ‘Sooryavanshi’, interestingly, both the films are released around national holidays. While in CP Berar and Odisha markets, Pushpa (Hindi) performed better than this sports drama. ‘83’ fetched a decent collection from the South and the Tamil dubbed versions, which contributed around 4 crore net to the film’s overall business. The only positive right now for ‘83’ is the upcoming holiday weekend and no competition from ‘Jersey’, which bowed out last minute. An upward trend in the collection is expected today. Directed by Kabir Khan, ‘83’ narrates the story of the India cricket team’s iconic win during the world cup in 1983. ‘83’ also stars Deepika Padukone, Pankaj Tripathi, Tahir Raj Bhasin, Jiiva, Saqib Saleem, Jatin Sarna, Chirag Patil, Dinker Sharma, Nishant Dahiya, Harrdy Sandhu, Sahil Khattar, Ammy Virk, Adinath Kothare, Dhairya Karwa, and R Badree in pivotal roles.

Interestingly, Ranveer is in talks with five biopics. The actor is reportedly going to play the lead in a story of a paraplegic swimmer. Speaking exclusively to ETimes, the actor replied, “I guess we should rather wait and give this time, those 5 biopics are all in different stages of development and hopefully one of them will develop into an extraordinary script and you will hear an official announcement soon.”
