Adipurush box office collection Day 12: Om Raut’s film witnesses further drop on second Tuesday, earns only Rs 1.9 cr
Adipurush box office collection day 12: The Prabhas, Kriti Sanon and Saif Ali Khan-starrer has been rejected by audiences. The film seems to be nearing the end of its theatrical run.
Om Raut’s epic drama Adipurush has been mired in controversies since its release on June 16. This has led to a shoddy performance at the box office. Also, people are wary about watching a movie that has received such negative reviews from both film critics and audiences. On its 12th day of release, the Prabhas-starrer witnessed another drop in numbers, hinting that the film is nearing the end of its theatrical run.
As per industry tracker Sacnilk, Adipurush could earn only Rs 1.90 cr (early estimates) on Tuesday. Though this brings the total domestic collection of the film to Rs 279.78 cr, the number is not exceptional, given the budget of the film was reportedly as high as Rs 500 cr. The Hindi occupancy of the film was only 7.23% on Tuesday. It seems like the film will have a difficult time touching the Rs 150 crore mark in the Hindi-speaking belt, considered its biggest market.
Now, with the release of Kartik Aaryan and Kiara Advani’s Satyaprem Ki Katha this Friday, the chances of Adipurush recovering from this downward spiral look bleak. The makers of the film have made every effort — from changing the film’s controversial dialogues to slashing ticket prices — to get people to watch Adipurush. But the audience seems to be upset with the controversial depiction of the Hindu epic Ramayana in the movie.
Recently, the Allahabad High Court, while hearing a plea seeking a ban on the film, expressed concern over the depiction of key characters from the Ramayana in Adipurush, saying “Hindus are tolerant but why they are tested every time”. The Lucknow bench also issued a notice to the film’s dialogue writer Manoj Muntashir.
Adipurush, also starring Kriti Sanon, Sunny Singh and Saif Ali Khan in major roles, has also let down family audiences. It is the third consecutive blow for Prabhas after the failure of Radhe Shyam and Saaho. Now, whether the audience will accept him in Nag Ashwin’s Project K and Prashanth Neel’s Salaar remains to be seen.
