Adipurush box office collection Day 8: Prabhas-starrer falls to new lows, shows start getting cancelled within a week
Adipurush box office collection day 8: Even with no competition at the box office, the controversial epic starring Prabhas continues to crash at the box office on day 8 in cinemas.
After a historic start at the box office in its first weekend of release, the mythological epic Adipurush is continuing its downward spiral. Having completed one week of release, the Prabhas and Kriti Sanon-starrer has earned an estimated Rs 3.25 crore nett on day eight in cinemas across the country, as per industry tracker Sacnilk. This is the lowest single-day haul in the film’s eight-day run in theatres.
According to the tracking website, the Hindi collections of director Om Raut’s film are around Rs 125 crore nett. The overall Hindi occupancy on Friday was 8.30%, Telugu occupancy was 16.31% and Tamil occupancy was 23.81% and Kannada occupancy was 8.56%.
The film’s nett domestic collection now stands at Rs 263.15 crore. After The Kerala Story (which earned Rs 241.95 crore according to Bollywood Hungama), Adipurush is the third film to enter the Rs 200 crore club this year. However, Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan remains at the top spot as it made Rs 543.05 crore in the domestic market.
As per trade analyst Manobala Vijayabalan, Adipurush’s nett worldwide collection after eight days in theatres stands at Rs 378.01 crore. Adipurush is reportedly made on a budget of over Rs 500 crore. T-Series, the film’s production house, claimed that the film had grossed Rs 410 crore worldwide till Thursday, they have not shared box-office figures in the last two days.
Even as the film is inching towards making up its budget, it is suffering because of negative reviews from critics as well as the audience. Adipurush’s dialogues and VFX has received severe criticism as soon as the film released in theatres. Earlier this week, the makers revised a few objectionable dialogues, and even slashed ticket prices. None of the new changes have helped improve the film’s the performance at the box office. On Friday, the executive director of the Gaiety Galaxy cinema hall in Mumbai, Manoj Desai, said that he had to cancel shows because of poor word-of-mouth. “Viewers have rejected this film. Yesterday, two of our shows were cancelled and today, our matinee shows had to be cancelled due to poor word-of-mouth and response. This movie will be removed from theatres very soon and we didn’t think it will come to this. Not just ours, the owners of all theatres where the film has been released have suffered losses,” he told news agency ANI.
Adipurush’s release date was quite well planned, as it doesn’t have any competition at the box office with no big film releasing this week. Only Krishna Bhatt’s debut film 1920: Horrors of the Heart released in theatres on June 23, which gives Adipurush another week with no competition. Adipurush’s failure means that each of Prabhas’ three films after the success of the Baahubali franchise have under-performed at the box office, and critically.
