Delhi liquor policy case: CM Arvind Kejriwal brought to Rouse Avenue Court ahead of SC bail plea hearing
Liquor policy case: Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal faces intensified scrutiny as the CBI seeks to arrest him ahead of a crucial SC hearing on his bail. The AAP has accused the central government of conspiring against him. The SC is set to review the Delhi High Court’s stay on Kejriwal’s bail today.
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal faces mounting legal challenges as the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) gears up to produce him before a trial court on Wednesday, potentially leading to his arrest. This development coincides with a crucial Supreme Court hearing on Kejriwal’s plea challenging a Delhi High Court order that paused his bail.
Questioning and court movements
On Monday, the CBI interrogated Kejriwal in Tihar Jail concerning the liquor policy case, recording his statement. Subsequently, the agency sought and obtained a production warrant for Kejriwal from a special court. The CBI is set to present him before a trial court at 10 am on Wednesday, possibly before the Supreme Court hearing.
Implications of arrest
If the CBI arrests Kejriwal and secures his custody, he will remain in Tihar Jail regardless of the Supreme Court’s decision on his bail. Kejriwal is already under judicial custody in an Enforcement Directorate (ED) case, complicating his legal predicament.

AAP’s strong reaction
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has vehemently criticised the CBI’s actions. Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh accused the Centre of orchestrating a fake case against Kejriwal. “The entire nation can see this and is standing in solidarity with Arvind Kejriwal,” Singh stated.
Bail proceedings background
Kejriwal was granted bail by a Delhi court on June 20 after his arrest by the ED on March 21. However, the ED challenged this decision in the Delhi High Court, which subsequently stayed the bail on June 21 and reserved its order for June 25. Kejriwal’s legal team then approached the Supreme Court, which advised waiting for the High Court’s order rather than issuing an immediate decision.
High court’s order
Today, the Delhi High Court pronounced that the trial court did not outline the necessary conditions for Kejriwal’s release under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), under which he is charged, adding another layer of complexity to the ongoing legal battle.
