Arvind Kejriwal To Go To Election Commission To Clarify His Toxic Yamuna Remarks
The Election Commission of India (ECI) gave Aam Aadmi Party chief Arvind Kejriwal time till Friday (January 31) to provide factual evidence related to his claims of poisoning of Yamuna river. The election body asked former Delhi Chief Minister not to mix the issues of increased Ammonia content and poisoning in the river. The EC had sent a notice to him on January 27 and Arvind Kejriwal responded to it on January 28.
In its letter to Arvind Kejriwal, the EC said, “The EC finds no reason for anyone to dispute this noble position and will leave it to the competence and discretion of governments and agencies, abstaining from arbitration on long-standing water-sharing and pollution issues during the brief election period, particularly where agreements and legal directives from the Supreme Court and National Green Tribunal already exist.”
Delhi Legislative Assembly election for all 70 constituencies is scheduled to be held on February 5. Results will be declared on February 8.
