Bholaa box office collection day 8: Ajay Devgn film falls short of Rs 60 crore mark in first week
Bholaa box office collection day 8: Ajay Devgn and Tabu’s film is not recreating the same magic at the box office as their previous collaboration, Drishyam 2.
Ajay Devgn and Tabu-starrer Bholaa has been in theatres for over a week, and even though the film isn’t facing much competition in the Hindi market, it’s collections have been falling short of expectations. In the first week, Bholaa earned Rs 56.8 crore, and its eighth day collection is approximately Rs 3 crore, as per industry tracker Sacnilk. The film’s current box office nett collection stands at Rs 59.68 crore.
Bholaa opened in theatres with Rs 11.20 crore (Thursday) and after witnessing a slight dip on the second day, the film’s collections picked up on the third and fourth days. Bholaa’s second weekend in the theatres will be closely watched, as the film still doesn’t have much competition until the release of Salman Khan’s Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan on April 21.
Despite its relatively modest collections, Bholaa is still the-third highest grosser of 2023, after Pathaan and Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar (TJMM). Pathaan’s lifetime collection in the domestic markets is over Rs 500 crore nett and TJMM also managed to collect a little over Rs 130 crore nett.
Devgn’s last film, Drishyam 2, was a big success at the box office and was one of the few films that made a significant commercial impact in 2022. Drishyam 2 had crossed over Rs 104 crore in its first week, but Bholaa is struggling to get anywhere close to that. Drishyam 2 and Bholaa are both remakes, but the box office results for both these films are drastically different. Bholaa is the remake of the Tamil film Kaithi, directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj.
Since the failure of Kartik Aaryan’s Shehzada and Akshay Kumar’s Selfiee, there has been a lot of conversation about south remakes no longer being a safe bet for Bollywood producers anymore.
Ajay Devgn’s next big release is Amit Sharma’s Maidaan, which hits the screens in June.
