CBI arrests divisional engineer and official of Central Railway in bribery case

The CBI has arrested a divisional engineer and an official of the Central Railway in a bribery case.

The Central Bureau of Investigation has arrested divisional engineer M L Gupta and official Sanjeev Rade in a bribery case. They both work in Central Railway in Bhusawal division of Maharashtra.

A case was registered against the divisional engineer and clerk on the basis of a complaint alleging that they demanded Rs 4,50,000 for issuing a letter of acceptance with respect to two tenders awarded to the complainant.

It was stated that the complainant’s firm was shortlisted in the month of July in the tender process for repair work of staff quarters and service building in central zone area in Bhusawal amounting to Rs 1,34,88,320. The firm was also shortlisted in the tender process for upgradation of a coach care centre in Bhusawal worth Rs 1,13,35,744.

The CBI laid a trap and caught both the accused demanding and accepting payments of bribe amounts of Rs 2,00,000 and Rs 40,000 respectively from the complainant.

The CBI conducted searches at the premises of both the accused on Monday. A sum of Rs 15 lakh has so far been recovered from the premises of the divisional engineer. Both the arrested accused will be produced before the court on Tuesday.
