Customs officials seize gold coins worth Rs 7.8 crore at Delhi airport
Customs officials at Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport seized gold coins worth approximately Rs 7.8 crore from two passengers who arrived from Milan on Wednesday.
The accused, both residents of Jammu and Kashmir, were intercepted after their arrival. Although an initial baggage scan did not reveal anything suspicious, a thorough personal search led to the discovery of two specially designed waist belts. These belts contained gold coins wrapped in plastic envelopes, concealed beneath their clothing.
According to the customs department, a total of 10.092 kg of gold coins was recovered. The seizure was confirmed in an official post on X.
The two passengers have been detained for further investigation, and authorities are probing the source and intended destination of the smuggled gold.
