Delhi: Massive fire breaks out at restaurant in Rajouri Garden, people jump off roof
A massive fire erupted at a restaurant in West Delhi’s Rajouri Garden on Monday. Ten fire tenders were rushed to the spot to extinguish the fire and bring the situation under control.
According to media reports, the fire started at Jungle Jamboree restaurant. Delhi Fire Services chief Atul Garg said, “We received a fire call near Rajouri Garden Metro Station at 2.01 pm. 10 fire tenders were immediately dispatched to the site to control the blaze.”
Thick smoke engulfed the area as firefighters attempted to douse the fire with water jets. Authorities cordoned off the vicinity amid panic among the nearby shopkeepers.
At least 20 people were in the restaurant at the time of the incident. A shopkeeper, Ghanshyam Agarwal, said it was around 2 pm when many local shopkeepers witnessed black smoke billowing from Jungle Jamboree restaurant.
He added, “We immediately informed the police and fire brigade teams. More than 25 people jumped from the open sitting area to a nearby building’s terrace to save their lives.”
Delhi Fire Service Assistant Divisional Officer (ADO) Sarabjit Singh said 11 fire tenders reached the spot as soon as the information was received. “The fire has been completely extinguished,” adding that except for a woman, who got injured after slipping while descending the stairs, no one was injured.
