
Gold-Medallist Powerlifter Yashtika Acharya Dies After 270-Kg Rod Slips And Falls On Her Neck
Yashtika Acharya- a 17-year-old gold-medallist powerlifter, died during training in Rajasthan’s Bikaner district in a tragic accident when a 270-kg weightlifting rod fell on her neck.
The incident happened while she was practicing in the gym, police said, as videos of Yashtika Acharya lifting the rod were widely shared on social media.
As per officials, Yashtika Acharya was training with her coach when the heavy rod slipped and fell on her. The impact was severe and resulted in her neck breaking. Her trainer, who was assisting her during the practice, also suffered minor injuries.
Yashtika Acharya was rushed to the hospital, but doctors declared her dead on arrival.
Yashtika Acharya had won a gold medal in the Junior National Games.
