Gurugram: Cops bust gang stealing fuel from tankers after tampering; 3 held

Gurgaon: The chief minister’s flying squad busted a gang that specialised in stealing diesel and petrol from tankers that supplied those to fuel stations.
Three people, including the driver of one tanker, were arrested from Mewat on Friday and around 520 litre of fuel — 55 litre of diesel and 465 litre of petrol— has been recovered from them.

The DSP of the flying squad, Inderjeet Yadav, said they had information about fuel being stolen from a tanker in Mewat and a team was formed to look into the incident.

Explaining the operations of the gang, the DSP said that with help of metal wires, the accused would create holes near tool boxes of parked fuel tankers. They would put plastic sheets under the vehicles to collect the fuel that would leak. The fuel would then be transferred into small containers.

At the time of Friday’s raid, one of the accused was found holding a plastic sheet under a tanker and another was seen collecting fuel in a small container.
The arrested men have been identified as tanker driver Rajkumar, Jahid Khan, from Mewat, and Toufiq from Alwar in Rajasthan. According to officers, Jahid and Toufiq had an understanding with several tanker drivers.
On their way to designated fuel stations, the drivers would stop at a roadside eatery for meals and there, the fuel would be stolen.
The gang members would steal small amounts of fuel from each vehicle to avoid getting detected. They would later sell the fuel to vehicle owners in Mewat.

“They had no permission to store and sell the fuel,” said the DSP. A case has been registered at Nuh police station.
