Gurugram: Kashmiri youth thrashed by three men, police refute communal angle in assault

The Kashmiri youth Tariq Ahmad Bhat said he could not see the attackers as it was dark and the accused were wearing masks during the assault on him in Sector 44 of Gurugram.

Gurugram: A man from Kashmir has been assaulted by three men in Gurugram district of Haryana. Meanwhile, the city police have refuted ‘communal angle’ in the assault.

Gurugram police officials suspect that both the attackers and the victim work in the same company and that the incident could be a result of a rivalry between them.

“We had filed the FIR promptly. Prima facie, we suspect the accused are from the same workplace. Further probe is on and action will be taken,” the report quoted Subhash Boken, Gurugram Police PRO, as saying.

The victim has been identified as 24-year-old Tariq Ahmad Bhat, who hails from Chinjamula of Kupwara district. He works as a financial advisor for Policybazaar, a fintech company, in Gurugram. The crime took place on Thursday evening in Sector 44.

In his complaint to police, the victim stated that he was grabbed by four men who started thrashing him after he left his office. He said the attackers also tried to stab him with some sharp object. As Bhat shouted for help, the accused abandoned him threatening to kill him.

The accused said he could not see the attackers as they were wearing masks and it was dark. A police officer said they came to know about the assault through Twitter. He said a case has been filed under Sections 323 (voluntary causing hurt), 506 (criminal intimidation) and 34 (common intention) of Indian Penal Code (IPC).

According to Inspector Jasvir, SHO from Sushant Lok police station, the probe is underway in the case.

Bhat said he came to the city around three years ago to work for an airline company as a customer service executive.
