Kangana Ranaut calls out Sonam Kapoor for saying she has ‘questionable English’, takes a dig at ‘film mafia’ again: ‘Gossipy aunties can never…’
Kangana Ranaut shared an old clip in which Sonam Kapoor said that Kangana has a great fashion sense but a ‘questionable’ command over English.
Actor Kangana Ranaut, who is quite active on social media, took a dig at the so-called ‘movie mafia’ yet again on Wednesday. She posted a clip from an episode of Koffee with Karan season three, in which host Karan Johar interacted with guests Sonam Kapoor and Deepika Padukone. During the episode, Sonam praised Kangana’s fashion sense, but questioned her ‘ability to speak English fluently’.
In the video, Karan asks Sonam, “If you have the power to give celebrities these aspects who would you give that to – the ability to speak English fluently.” A hesitant Sonam replied, “Kangana has a great fashion sense, but…” Karan completed her answer, “Questionable English,” to which Sonam agreed. Sharing the clip on her Instagram story, Kangana wrote, “What I learned from years of fights with film mafia is that no outsider will ever be mocked for not speaking English… also that show is officially closed forever.”
The Dhaakad actor asked her fans to focus on the latter half of the video, which featured her response. In a conversation with film journalist Anupama Chopra, Kangana was asked about Sonam’s comments. She wrote, “Please don’t miss my comeback in the end. Even at 24 after being openly bullied, humiliated and mocked I showed grace sophistication articulation and humility which English-speaking gossipy aunties with so-called great upbringing can never…”
Kangana said in her response to Anupama Chopra, “I do feel hurt, eventually, I am just a 24-year-old who is trying to do her own things and when people make my mistakes a focus and not my plus points, it does hurt. I am trying, where I came from, I groomed myself, and I constantly say I am trying to improve my language skills. It’s not like I am not trying.”
The actor, who has been on Koffee with Karan, often speaks against the talk show’s gossipy nature, and its host Karan Johar. Even during her appearance on the show, she had called him the ‘flag bearer of nepotism’, starting a still-ongoing war of words with him.
In one of her Instagram stories recently, Kangana also mentioned how the late legendary star Dev Anand used to offer her films during the initial phase of her career. She wrote, “When I was new in films one person who called me often and offered me roles in his directorial films was Dev saab… he was really appreciative of my talent even when I was struggling.”
Kangana Ranaut will next be seen in the film Emergency, in which she essays the role of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. Besides Emergency, she also has Tejas in the pipeline; the film will hit theaters in October this year.
