Lucknow court firing: Section 144 imposed in Kanpur after gangster Sanjeev Jeeva shot dead

The incident in Lucknow, where gangster Sanjeev alias Jeeva was shot and killed inside the court premises, has led to several developments and actions taken by the authorities.

  1. Imposition of Section 144: Following the shooting, Section 144 was imposed in Kanpur, which is a preventive measure to maintain law and order. Section 144 prohibits the assembly of more than four people in a public place.
  2. Increased security in district courts: Uttar Pradesh Special DG (law and order) Prashant Kumar issued an order directing all district superintendents of police to enhance security in all district courts. The order included measures such as installing metal detectors and other equipment on the court premises.
  3. Three-member SIT formed: The Chief Minister’s Office announced the formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) consisting of Mohit Agarwal, ADG Technical; Joint CP, Lucknow, Nilabja Chaudhary; and Ayodhya IG Praveen Kumar. The SIT is tasked with investigating the incident.
  4. Strengthening security arrangements: Prashant Kumar’s order emphasized the need to review the security of courts, enhance security arrangements for accused individuals appearing in court, and activate intelligence and social media cells to ensure safety.
  5. Injuries and treatment: Sanjeev Jeeva was shot and succumbed to his injuries. Two constables were also injured but were reported to be out of danger and receiving medical treatment.
