Ludhiana drug bust: Police officer nabbed by STF for smuggling contrabands with his cousin

The Ludhiana STF has arrested the assistant sub-inspector Rajenderpal Singh for allegedly smuggling drugs with his cousin and an associate from Madhya Pradesh.

Ludhiana: An assistant sub-inspector has been arrested by Special Task Force (STF) for allegedly selling drugs along with his relative and an associate. The police officer was posted at Daba police station.

Police have also seized 350 kg of poppy husk from the three accused. The arrests were made near Dyalpur village of Samrala when the accused were returning from Madhya Pradesh on Friday.

It is alleged that the police officer, who was in uniform, tried to influence STF officials saying it was his own car and there is nothing illegal in it, according to a report in Times of India.

When the vehicle was searched by STF, officials found drugs from it. After his arrest, the ASI was suspended with immediate effect.

The police officer has been identified as 53-year-old Rajenderpal Singh. His aides are identified as Daljeet Kaur Babli (46), a resident of Gautam Vihar in Haibowal and Pawanjit Singh from Manjit Nagar.

A Mahindra Scorpio with Delhi registration number has also been seized from the accused. The car was being used for smuggling contraband.

“Rajenderpal’s cousin Daljeet Kaur is involved in drug peddling for over 10 years. She has completed a sentence in one case, while she is facing trial in another one. The police officer joined Daljeet about one and a half years ago to make quick money,” the report quoted Snehdeepan Sharam, AIG STF.

Police said the ASI used to charge at Rs 50,000 to Rs 1 lakh for every consignment from Daljeet Kaur. When the police intercepted the vehicle, the accused ‘confessed’ they were smuggling drugs from Madhya Pradesh.

ASI’s cousin Daljeet works as a labourer in a hosiery factory. Meanwhile, the STF has written to Ludhiana police commissioner Rakesh Agarwal informing him about Rajenderpal’s arrest and his habit of remaining absent from the duty.
