Two pilots killed in IAF’s MiG-21 fighter aircraft crash near Barmer in Rajasthan

MiG-21: Both the pilots in the MiG-21 Trainer aircraft lost their lives in the crash. IAF deeply regrets the loss of lives and stands firmly with the bereaved families.

MiG-21 jet crash: Two pilots were killed after an IAF MiG-21 fighter jet crashed in Rajasthan Barmer on Thursday. The incident took place at around 9 pm.

Both the pilots in the MiG-21 Trainer aircraft lost their lives in the crash. IAF deeply regrets the loss of lives and stands firmly with the bereaved families. A court of Inquiry has been ordered to ascertain the cause of the accident, Indian Air Force (IAF) said.

A rescue team has been dispatched to the crash site. Reports said the debris spread in around 1 km area of the crash.

“It was an IAF plane that crashed near Bhimda village in Baytoo,” Barmer District Collector Lok Bandu informed.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh spoke to Air Chief Marshal VR Chaudhari on MiG-21 crash in Barmer.

“Deeply anguished by the loss of two Air Warriors due to an accident of IAF’s Mig-21 trainer aircraft near Barmer in Rajasthan. Their service to the nation will never be forgotten. My thoughts are with the bereaved families in this hour of sadness,” Rajnath Singh said.

Speaking on the incident, Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot said, “Deeply saddened to know two IAF pilots have lost their lives in the line of duty when an IAF MiG 21 trainer aircraft met with an accident in Barmer. My heartfelt condolences to bereaved families. May they remain strong to bear this loss. We stand with them and share their grief.”
