Noida: Man wanting to marry friend ends life, his family members thrashed woman, her family

The Noida police have arrested five members of a family for allegedly assaulting the woman and her family after the alleged suicide of their relative.

Noida: A 22-year-old woman and her family were brutally thrashed by their neighbours after they blamed the woman for the alleged suicide of their male relative.

Police have now arrested five persons for allegedly assaulting the woman and her family.

Police said the 24-year-old man was found dead in Uttarakhand, the place where he worked, on July 6. He had allegedly committed suicide, according to a report in Hindustan Times.

The woman claimed that the deceased was forcing her to marry him. However, she had refused the offer repeatedly.

“We had known each other for a long time. But whenever he asked me to marry him, I refused. He visited his family in Noida last month and there were some issues. After his death, his family didn’t file a complaint but harassed and blamed me for his death,” the report quoted the woman as saying.

According to the woman, their neighbours forcibly entered her Phase 3 home in Noida on Sunday night and brutally assaulted her and her family members.

The woman said the accused dragged her and her brother out of home and started thrashing them with sticks. The woman’s parents were also allegedly assaulted by their neighbours. The woman said her mother has suffered a fracture to her arm while her brother suffered injuries on his head.

“I have multiple stitches on my forehead. Other neighbours intervened and called the police, and only then did they let us go. They threatened more harm. We are scared because they have a licensed gun,” the report further quoted the woman as saying.

Police have now booked the parents and three brothers of the deceased man under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code. Following the complaint, the five accused were arrested by Noida Phase 3 police. The accused have been sent to 14 days of judicial custody by a local court.
