
On Maghi Purnima, Over 90 Lakh Devotees Take Holy Dip At Maha Kumbh Amid ‘Pushp Varsha’
As Maghi Purnima (being observed on February 12) marks one of the big holy dip days, Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath was seen monitoring the Maha Kumbh Mela from Lucknow. Visuals showed millions of devotees taking sacred bath in Prayagraj’s Triveni Sangam early on Wednesday amid elaborate arrangements.
With the Maghi Purnima bath, the month-long Kalpavas will also end and the around 10 lakh kalpvasis will start leaving the Maha Kumbh. The administration has requested all Kalpvasis to follow traffic rules and use only authorised parking spaces.
Lakhs of devotees have already taken the holy dip at the Triveni Sangam and other ghats since the bathing started early morning. Millions of devotees are headed to the Sangam Nose to take a dip.
What’s Special About Maghi Purnima?
- According to the Vedic calendar, the full moon of the ‘Shukla Paksha’ of ‘Magh’ month began at 6:55 pm on Tuesday, February 11.
- The ‘maha snan’ can be done till 7:22 pm on February 12, as per Tithi.
- Quintals of flower petals were showered on the devotees from a helicopter on the auspicious occasion.
- District magistrated of 15 districts, 20 IAS and 85 PCS officers are on duty.
Maha Kumbh Mela: Top Points
- By 8 am on Wednesday, over 10 lakh ‘kalpvasis’ and 92.13 lakh devotees took holy dip. This sums up to over 1.02 crore people participating in the sacred bath till 8 am on Maghi Purnima. More than 46.25 crore have done ‘snan’ from the beginning of the festival till February 11.
- According to local reports, by 10 pm on Tuesday, 1 crore 43 lakh devotees had taken a holy dip in the Sangam. The ‘mela’ administration has estimated that about 2.5 crore devotees will participate in the sacred bath on Wednesday, which is being observed as Magh Purnima.
- Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath extended his heartfelt wishes to all devotees and residents of the state on the auspicious occasion of Magh Purnima. He also greeted revered saints, religious leaders, Kalpvasis, and devotees, praying to Lord Shri Hari for their happiness, prosperity, and well-being. Additionally, he sought the blessings of Maa Ganga, Yamuna, and Saraswati to fulfill everyone’s wishes.
- Prayagraj has been declared a ‘no-vehicle’ zone. It is implemented when there is a huge crowd of pedestrians in a city or place and their safety is affected by the movement of vehicles. However, vehicles carrying food, fuel and medical supplies will be allowed.
- The residents of Prayagraj have been urged to leave their homes on their personal vehicles only when it is very necessary.
- Just before the Maghi Purnima bath, a boat of devotees capsized near Sangam. Two devotees, including a woman, drowned in the accident. NDRF, police and local divers were able to rescued seven people. The incident occurred when six of a family from Dehradun and three people from Bangalore were returning after bathing in Sangam. The condition of two of the rescued people is critical. Both have been admitted to the ICU of SRN Hospital, while hunt is on for two devotees who could not be rescued.
