Over 200 fall in Greater Noida society, water contamination suspected
Over 200 residents fell ill within just two days at Ajnara Homes Society in Greater Noida, sparking fears of drinking water contamination.
Many residents reported symptoms such as stomach pain, vomiting, and diarrhoea. Several have exhibited severe symptoms, prompting concerns about the safety of the society’s water supply. One of the resident was hospitalised on Monday.
Residents allege that contaminated water is being supplied due to the negligence of the local authority and society maintenance.
“More than 200 residents reported illness. The most affected towers are M, J, K, and A. However, on Tuesday, almost all the towers’ residents complained of similar issues. It is suspected that the groundwater supply of the society is contaminated because if the overhead tanks were affected, it would affect only one tower, as each tower has individual overhead tanks,” said Chandan Sinha, AOA president of Ajnara Homes.
“The situation is alarming. Many complained of symptoms after drinking the tap water. The most affected are children and old-aged people,” said a J tower resident at the society.
Upon receiving the complaints, the health department officials visited the site. Water samples were also collected from the society by officials.
“A health camp will be set up from Wednesday at the society. The health department collected data and inspected the society. Reports will be made available soon,” said Narendra Kumar, CMO Noida.
Meanwhile, on Monday, two private health camps were organised by the AOA in collaboration with local private hospitals.
“More than 60 residents reported diarrhoea symptoms at the camp till Tuesday morning,” said Sinha.
