Priyanka Gandhi’s oath as MP today, to join Gandhis in Parliament

Priyanka Gandhi Vadra’s entry into the Lok Sabha after her massive victory in Kerala’s Wayanad, Parliament will see three members of the Gandhi family for the first time in decades.

Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, who won from Kerala’s Wayanad in a Lok Sabha bypoll by a thumping margin, is set to take oath as an MP for the first time in the Lok Sabha today. She will join her brother Rahul Gandhi, a Raebareli MP, and mother Sonia Gandhi, a Rajya Sabha parliamentarian.

Priyanka Gandhi Vadra’s entry into the Lok Sabha, Parliament will see three members of the Gandhi family for the first time in decades. While Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and Rahul Gandhi will sit in the Lok Sabha, their mother Sonia Gandhi is in the Rajya Sabha after she opted not to contest from Raebareli in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

Priyanka Gandhi Vadra will also become the third woman in the family after Sonia Gandhi and her grandmother and late former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi to take oath as an MP.

Rahul Gandhi, who won from both Wayanad and Raebareli, chose to retain his family bastion and vacated Wayanad, following which Priyanka Gandhi Vadra was fielded from there. She got 6.22 lakh votes, and defeated her nearest CPM rival Sathyan Mokeri by over four lakh votes, a margin higher than what Rahul Gandhi got in the 2024 polls.

Following her victory, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra said she looked forward to being the voice of the people in Parliament.

“I am overwhelmed with gratitude for the trust you have placed in me. I will make sure that over time, you truly feel this victory has been your victory and the person you chose to represent you understands your hopes and dreams and fights for you as one of your own. I look forward to being your voice in Parliament,” she tweeted.
