Satyaprem Ki Katha box office collection Day 5: Kartik Aaryan-Kiara Advani’s film witnesses over 50% drop on first Monday
Satyaprem Ki Katha box office collection Day 5: After an impressive weekend, the Kartik Aaryan-Kiara Advani film failed to pass the first Monday test, despite positive word of mouth.
The romantic drama Satyaprem Ki Katha, starring Kartik Aaryan and Kiara Advani, had a good start at the ticket counters last week, and managed to register a strong total over its first weekend in theatres. But the film witnessed a drop of over 50% on the all-important first Monday. As per a Sacnilk report, Satyaprem Ki Katha earned Rs 4 crore (early estimates) on Monday, bringing its total collections to Rs 42.50 cr in four days. The film had an occupancy of 11.68% in the Hindi-speaking market.
The film will need to deliver steady totals during the week to stand a chance at success. Though there are no big Bollywood releases in sight, the Kartik-Kiara film is facing some competition from the Punjabi comedy caper Carry On Jatta 3. The film will have to rely on positive word of mouth to get it through the week.
Film trade analyst Taran Adarsh noted, “While the heavy downpour hit biz in #Mumbai, #SatyaPremKiKatha had to face a mighty opponent in #Punjabi film #CarryOnJatta3, which has done exceptional biz in #Delhi and #Punjab and is creating History at the #Boxoffice.”
Satyaprem Ki Katha brings some respite to Kartik Aaryan, who began the year with the failure of Shehzada, a remake of the Telugu blockbuster Ala Vaikunthapurramloo. The film could only earn Rs 32.20 cr during its lifetime run. But Kiara’s last film, JugJugg Jeeyo, did better business than Satyaprem Ki Katha. Also starring Anil Kapoor, Neetu Kapoor and Varun Dhawan, it ended its run in the theaters with Rs 85.03 cr.
Produced by Sajid Nadiadwala and Namah Pictures, Satyaprem Ki Katha is the second collaboration between Kartik and Kiara. The two have earlier starred together in the blockbuster hit Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2.
