Several Delhi schools receive bomb threat via email, 2nd time this week

At least 16 schools in Delhi received bomb threats via an email in the early hours of Friday, triggering a multi-agency search of the premises, the Delhi Police said. After a detailed investigation, police declared the threats as hoaxes since nothing suspicious was found. This was the second instance within a week when schools in the national capital received hoax bomb threats.

These schools include Delhi Public School in the East of Kailash, Salwan Public School in Mayur Vihar, Bhatnagar International School in Paschim Vihar and Cambridge School in Srinivas Puri, among others. The email asked the schools to “reply back” to check the demands of the sender.

The bomb threat was received at 4.30 am via an e-mail, following which teams of the fire department, police and bomb detection teams, along with dog squads, reached the schools and started their probe. The schools’ authorities sent messages to parents to not send their children to classes after the threat email.

Terming the bomb threat emails as “extremely serious and worrying”, former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in a post on X said that it can “badly affect children”.

“This is the second time this week that Delhi schools have received bomb threats, which is extremely serious and worrying. If this continues, how badly will it affect the children? What will happen to their studies?” the AAP chief said.

Earlier this week, more than 40 schools in Delhi, including the Delhi Public School in RK Puram and GD Goenka Public School in Paschim Vihar, also received hoax bomb threats via e-mail.

As per the Delhi Police, the e-mails sent at around 11.30 pm on Sunday said that bombs were planted on the school campuses and also demanded an amount of $30,000 to stop the explosions.
