Sourav Ganguly accident: Former India captain escapes unhurt after collision on road

Former India cricket team captain Sourav Ganguly narrowly escaped a major accident on Thursday when his car was involved in a collision on Durgapur Expressway in West Bengal while he was on the way to an event.

The incident occurred at Dantanpur where a lorry suddenly overtook Ganguly’s convoy, forcing the driver to apply the brakes abruptly. This led to a chain reaction, causing the cars behind Ganguly’s vehicle to collide with each other, and one of them hitting Ganguly’s car.

Fortunately, no one was injured in the accident. However, two cars in Ganguly’s convoy suffered minor damage. Ganguly was forced to wait on the road for about 10 minutes before proceeding to Burdwan University, where he attended a scheduled function.

Despite the unsettling incident, Ganguly remained composed and went on with his commitments in Burdwan as planned. He interacted with students and dignitaries at the event, discussing Indian cricket’s future and sharing anecdotes from his illustrious career. Known for his calm demeanor and leadership, Ganguly handled the situation with his trademark poise before resuming his professional duties.

In addition to his past experience in cricket administration roles, former BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) President Sourav Ganguly has taken on a significant position in women’s cricket. In October 2024, he was appointed as the Director of Cricket at JSW Sports, overseeing all cricketing ventures, including the Delhi Capitals Women’s team in the Women’s Premier League (WPL).

Ahead of the 2025 WPL season, Ganguly played a key role in strengthening the Delhi Capitals squad, bringing in fresh talent from the WPL auction. Ganguly has expressed confidence in the squad’s potential and aims to guide the team toward championship success.

With the WPL 2025 season underway, Ganguly has been actively involved in mentoring players and strategising for the Delhi Capitals Women’s team.
