Special gesture: Kuwaiti PM sees off PM Modi as he concludes historic visit
Prime Minister Narendra Modi concluded his historic two-day visit to Kuwait on Sunday, a first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to the Gulf nation in over four decades. In a special gesture, the PM of Kuwait came to see off PM Modi at the airport as he left for India. During the PM’s visit the two countries elevated their relations to a strategic partnership.
“Thank you Kuwait! This visit was historic and will greatly enhance our bilateral relations. I thank the Government and people of Kuwait for their warmth. I also thank the PM of Kuwait for the special gesture of coming to the airport for the see-off,” PM Modi wrote on social media platform X before leaving the Gulf nation.
The Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal described the visit as “historic and successful”. “A historic & successful visit to Kuwait concludes! PM @narendramodi emplanes for New Delhi,” he wrote on X.
PM held extensive discussions with Kuwait’s leaders
During his visit, PM Modi held extensive discussions with Kuwait’s top leadership, including Emir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah. The engagements were mostly focused on enhancing cooperation in major areas including information technology, pharmaceuticals, fintech, infrastructure, and security.
“In line with the close ties between our nations, we have elevated our partnership to a strategic one, and I am optimistic that our friendship will flourish even more in the times to come,” PM Modi shared in a post on X.
PM Modi also met his Kuwaiti counterpart Ahmad Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah and Crown Prince Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Mubarak Al-Sabah during his visit. PM Modi was conferred the ‘Order of Mubarak Al-Kabeer’, Kuwait’s highest civilian honour for his efforts to strengthen the ties between the two countries. On Saturday, the first day of his visit. The PM addressed an event for the Indian community and visited an Indian labour camp. Kuwait is the largest expatriate community in the Gulf nation.
