Taarak Mehta’s Priya Ahuja says actors go through ‘mental harassment’ on show, Asit Modi passes sexist remarks

Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah actor Priya Ahuja said she was never explained why her track in the show was cut short, and that she was discarded from the series.

Actor Priya Ahuja, who played the popular character of Rita Reporter on Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah, has lashed out against the makers for “unfair” treatment and a toxic work environment which wasn’t good for artistes, in a recent interview.

The actor, associated with the show since its inception, hasn’t been seen on the show for the last few months. Priya said she was discarded from the comedy series without any explanation. In an interview with Times of India, Priya, who was married to Malav Rajda, director of the show for 14 years, opened up about the workplace.

She said because of her director husband’s steady job, things didn’t affect her that much as he was earning but claimed that her track on the show was reduced: “Yes, the artists have to go through mental harassment when they work on Taarak Mehta. Asit Kumarr Modi bhai, Sohil Ramani or Jatin Bajaj (he’s like my younger brother) they never misbehaved with me. But as far work is concerned I’ve been subjected to unfair treatment.”

The actor claimed she remained clueless about her track, even after her husband quit the show. Priya said she had reached out to the makers for clarity but got no response. The actor also recalled how the show’s producer Asit Modi would pass sexist remarks.

“Asit bhai has told me this many a times ‘Malav is earning then why do you have to worry. You enjoy life like a queen…,’” the actor recalled. She went on to add that it is unfortunate that she did not get the basic respect despite working with the team for 14 long years.
