Delhi Water Minister alleges corruption by AAP in Timarpur pond project, orders probe
Delhi Water Minister Parvesh Sahib Singh on Sunday issued directions to shut an ‘oxidation pond’ at Timarpur, alleging corruption of Rs 85 crore by the previous AAP government. He has also ordered an investigation into the project.
The minister issued the directions after he made a surprise visit to inspect the ongoing work.
He alleged that crores were spent on this pond, yet not a single drop of water has been treated to date.
“This is a live example of the corruption perpetrated by the Aam Aadmi Party government. Around Rs 35 to 40 crore was spent just on grass and landscaping, and another Rs 45 crore on the construction of ponds — totaling approximately Rs 85 crore. The real question is: Where did all this money go? The people of Delhi deserve answers, and a full investigation has been ordered,” said Singh.
Hitting back, the AAP said, “What Pravesh [Sahib Singh] is doing is nothing more than political theatre. The people of Delhi are watching closely and can see through his daily antics.”
The Timarpur lake revival and oxidation pond project was part of the AAP government’s plans to turn Delhi into a ‘City of Lakes’ by reviving several dry lakes, intending to eventually increase the groundwater table of the city.
Officials said that the BJP government and the Water Department will come up with a new plan on how to develop this area.
