Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar box office collection Day 12: Ranbir Kapoor’s film has a successful weekend, earns Rs 109 cr

Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar box office collection Day 12: Even with new releases in, Ranbir Kapoor-Shraddha Kapoor’s film continues to attract audiences to the theatre.

Ranbir Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor’s Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar may not have impressed critics much, but fans are definitely enjoying the rom-com. After crossing the Rs 100 crore mark on Saturday, the film earned Rs 7.60 crore on its second Sunday. The total estimated domestic collection now stands at Rs 109.58 crore, reported industry tracker Sacnilk.

Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar released on Holi, and made Rs 15.73 crore on its opening day. In the subsequent days, the film managed to deliver double-digit figures at the box office, until its first Monday, when the figures drastically fell to Rs 6.05 crore. The film’s second weekend turned out to be a fruitful one, even when it faced competition against Rani Mukerji’s Mrs Chatterjee vs Norway and Kapil Sharma’s Zwigato. Hollywood film Shazam! Fury Of The Gods and the pan-India period drama Kabzaa also released last Friday. With the spike in weekend numbers, it’s said the film could close its lifetime collection at around Rs 130 crore.

Directed by Luv Ranjan, Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar is the only Hindi release after Pathaan that has managed to attract audiences to the theatres. This year, movies like Akshay Kumar’s Selfiee and Kartik Aaryan’s Shehzada tragically tanked at the box office. This is also Ranbir Kapoor’s second Rs 100 crore film after Brahmastra.

However, The Indian Express’ Shubhra Gupta gave Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar 1.5 stars and called it “boring.” A part of the review read, “The writers of Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar clearly didn’t get the memo on brevity being the soul of wit: the film drags on for two hours before it comes to the last twenty minutes, which is when the pace picks up.”

Meanwhile, Sacnilk reported that Rani’s film Mrs Chatterjee vs Norway managed to mint approx. Rs 3 crore on Sunday, bringing its first weekend collection to Rs 6.73 crore. Based on the real-life story of an Indian couple whose children were taken away by Norwegian authorities in 2011, the film has so far gotten a lukewarm reception from audiences and critics.
