Uttar Pradesh: Yogi govt transfers 14 IPS officers in major administrative reshuffle

The Yogi Adityanath government in Uttar Pradesh has transferred 14 IPS officers, including the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) and SP of 10 districts.

Administrative reshuffle in UP: In a major administrative reshuffle in Uttar Pradesh on Sunday late night, the Yogi Adityanath government has transferred 14 IPS officers, including the Bareilly Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP). As many as Superintendent of Police of 10 districts have also been transferred.

Bareilly SSP Prabhakar Chaudhary has been made the Commandant of the Lucknow-based 32nd Battalion of the Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC). In place of Chaudhary, Ghule Sushil Chandrabhan, who was the SP of Sitapur, has been made the SSP of Bareilly.

Why was Bareilly SSP transferred?
The major reshuffle came days after the Bareilly Kanwar dispute. During the Kanwar Yatra in Bareilly, stones were pelted at the Kanwariyas in Bareilly. They were attacked near Shahnoori mosque in the Jogi Nawada area when the kanwariyas were on their way to Budaun to get water from the Ganga River. Nearly a dozen Kanwariyas were injured in the incident.

Reportedly, SSP Bareilly Chowdhary made a wrong statement regarding the matter and was removed from the post for failing to stop the ruckus. On Sunday, police resorted to lathicharge to disperse a group of kanwariyas, who were bent on taking their procession through an unauthorised route in Bareilly.

Amroha SP transferred
Amroha Superintendent of Police (SP) Aditya Langeh has been posted as the Superintendent of Police, Railway, Agra. In his place, Kannauj SP Kunwar Anupam Singh has been made the new SP of Amroha.

The transfer assumes significance as it comes a day after two people died due to electrocution and 52 sustained burn injuries in Amroha district when the music system of a “tazia” came within the electromagnetic field of high-tension wires.
